NEPA Scene’s Open Mic Night with Corners of Sanctuary

The Electric City was surging this last Tuesday evening (March 18, 2025) as the NEPA Scene hosted its weekly open mic night, live at The V-Spot in Scranton (PA).

The NEPA Scene is an independent arts and entertainment website that covers events in the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. With over 10 years running, the NEPA Scene Open Mic has been providing local artists of all kinds an outlet to showcase their talents.

NEPA Scene's most recent outing was no exception as area solo acts, acoustic duos, bands, and comedians performed on stage.

Amidst the array of eclectic performers, the highlight of the evening was, with a doubt, a special appearance set delivered by the Philadelphia-based Heavy Metal band, Corners of Sanctuary. Though, no stranger to the NEPA region, last night's V-Spot showcase marked the band's first appearance in the area in almost two years.

Forming in 2011, Corners of Sanctuary has taken their traveling rock and roll wagon express across the United States, toured in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Canada, and has appeared with a number of major acts like Faster Pussycat, Trapt, Sponge, Liliac, Stryper, Saxon, and local rock star drummer Carl Canedy of The Rods fame. From New York to Los Angeles, Corners of Sanctuary has performed on stages around the country, including the Trocadero, the Rainbow, and the legendary Whisky Ago-go.

Right from the start, there was no holding back. As the stage lights dimmed, Corners of Sanctuary hit the ground running, churning out a seasoned enclave of original music that immediately caught your attention, getting people out of their seat and up on their feet. The music definitely hit a chord with all in attendance as the audience cheered for an encore.

"It was great seeing Corners of Sanctuary back in Scranton," said local promoter, Keep it Metal Promotions, and former internet DJ, Billy Loney. "They rocked it last night, and the crowd was loving it... it was great!”

Following their blazing saddles set of tunes, questions quickly arose as to when and where the band was playing next locally.

"All I can say is that we always enjoy playing the Scranton area and hope to be back soon," said Corners of Sanctuary lead singer Frankie Cross.

Keep an ear out and be sure to check out Corners of Sanctuary on their next NEPA go-round. You won't be disappointed.
